Abstract

Sleep becomes more fragmented with age. Between 20% and 43% of the elderly populations are affected. Good and poor sleepers underestimate their sleep length. There may be difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep: there may also be early morning awakening and daytime napping. Psychological and physical impairment and life-events may affect sleep. In order to aid older adult’s with their sleep disorders, general practitioners (GPs) require a knowledge of normal patterns of sleep in the older adult’s. (Gerad P. et al., 2018)
A sleep disorder is any medical disorder which negatively affects a person’s healthy sleep patterns. Usually this involves less than adequate sleep to the extent that this may interfere with the person’s normal physical, mental and emotional functioning, but excessive sleep, can also be a problem. There are at least 80 different sleep disorders that have been identified, the most common and well-known being insomnia. (Buysse DJ. et al., 2019)

4- Assessing Effect of sleep pattern on older adult’s life.
Research Questions
1- What are the levels of knowledge of older adult’s about sleep pattern?

4- Is there a relation between Socio -demographic characteristics of older adult’s and sleep pattern?
5- Is there a relation between older adult’s health problems and their sleep pattern?

• There is a highly statistically significant relation between total older adults’ knowledge and their education level at (P < 0.001). Also, there is a statistically significant relation with their age and monthly income at (P < 0.05). While, there is no statistically significant relation with their gender, marital status, residence and occupation at (P> 0.05).
