Abstract The positive effects of exercise on several physiological and psychosocial functions are well documented,but until recently,little research or attention has focused on effect of exercise on female sexual function. The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of exercise on female sexual. The study was conducted on 160 married women. They were divided into 2 groups; group I (exercise group): Included 80 (50%) women practicing exercise, group II (non-exercise group): Included 80 (50%) women not practicing exercise. In this study, we used 2 forms of a self-report questionnaire designed by the investigators and translated into Arabic. In the first form (for the exercise group) the questionnaire consisted of 19 questions that covered different aspects of exercise and female sexuality in women practicing exercise. In the second form (for the non-exercise group) the questionnaire consisted of 12 questions that covered different aspects of female sexuality in women not practicing exercise. The results of this study showed that: There were no significant differences between cases and controls regarding their age, weight, height, and presence of chronic diseases. Regarding type of exercise most participants (62.5%) go to gym. Most participants (66.2%) exercise at the rate of 3-4 times / week. Duration of exercise was about 30 minutes in most of them (72.5%). Most participants (97.5%) do not take protein Summary 59 supplements. Most participants (61.3%) found improvement in sexual activity after exercise. There was significant difference between the studied groups regarding frequency of intercourse, spontaneous desire, lubrication, maintaining lubrication and reaching orgasm, it was significantly higher in exercise group. Pain during sexual intercourse was significantly lower in exercise group. Satisfaction was significantly higher in exercise group. There was a statistically significant relation between age of the woman and coital frequency, reaching orgasm, desire, lubrication and pain during sexual intercourse and also between age of woman. There was significant relation between improvement of sexual activity and type of exercise, most of women went to gym reported improvement in their sexual activity. |
