Abstract Summary Our study was directed towards comparing the morphologic characters of the buccal and palatal impacted canine and their adjacent lateral incisor to find if these differences may be considered an etiologic factor for the failure of the canine to erupt as well as the side of direction of the impaction whether buccal or palatal. We used 42 cone-beam computed tomography x-rays, 21 with buccal impacted canine and 21 with palatal impacted canine. Different morphologic characteristics for both the impacted canine and their adjacent lateral incisor were measured and analyzed. We used the other side with normally erupting canine and adjacent lateral incisor as a study group for the comparison purposes. Our measurements were the mesiodistal dimension of the crown, crown length, root length, volume of the crown, volume of the root and bone density surrounding the root. |
