Abstract Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a laser eye surgery for the correction of visual refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism by ablation of the corneal stroma. The first step of PRK requires complete removal of the superficial corneal epithelium down to Bowman’s layer, then ablates the stroma by the excimer laser. Following the procedure, re-epithelialization occurs via the migration of fibroblasts and collagen synthesis. |
