Abstract
The current review aimed to give a comprehensive overview of the techniques used to treat chin deformities, with the aim of assisting surgeons to make a better choice. This was done by reviewing articles discussing different methods used to treat chin deformities in an attempt to reach such algorithm, certain inclusion and exclusion criteria were put to allow generalization of the resulting algorithm. First inclusion criteria were patient with mild to severe microgenia because Microgenia is the most common chin abnormality. Second inclusion was reviewing the studies from year 1995 to 2022 in order to cover a wide date in our research and the last update related to our research. third inclusion was the studies in English language to avoid misleading data due to faulty translation of non- English articles. Fourth inclusion was the type of studies; prospective and introspective clinical trial were selected as it gives good level of evidence.
Case reports, letters and commentaries were excluded in our review, due to their weak level of evidence. This review was done by searching Pubmed, and Cochrane electronic data- bases. Pubmed represents an unfiltered source of primary literature that comprises all the different publication types while Cochrane library represents a pre-filtered source which gives access to carefully selected publications.
After reviewing the literature, we found out that comprehensive knowledge of regional anatomy and relative facial proportions is really needed when evaluating patients and their individual case requiring correction to determine the type of deformity that exists in the lower third of the face and to choose the best type of treatment either osseous
