Abstract Male circumcision is one of the oldest and most commonly performed surgical procedures in pediatrics worldwide. The term “circumcision” originates from Latin circum (meaning “around”) and cædere (meaning “to cut”). Circumcision is the surgical removal of the prepuce (foreskin) either in whole or in part. It was estimated by whom that 30% of all male individuals above 15 years are circumcised. Circumcision is performed in the majority of infants because of religious, ethnic, and cultural causes, with a minority for medical indications. Despite the current controversy over whether it is ethical for parents to consent for a non-therapeutic neonatal circumcision, it remains a widely practiced procedure in newborn male infants all over the world; thus, it should be performed properly and safely, with the least probability of complications. |
