Abstract The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of a suggested enrichment GCED based program to develop EFL prospective teachers’ human shared values, cultural awareness, and critical reading skills. GCED stands for global citizenship education which seeks to enhance the capacity of individuals to engage actively in the development of inclusive, peaceful, tolerant, and secure societies, both at the local and global levels. The study used a quasi-experimental design. Participants of the study were sixty third-year EFL prospective teachers, at the Faculty of Education, Minia University. They were stratified randomly chosen and divided into two groups: treatment and non-treatment group. Treatment group participants were trained using a suggested enrichment GCED based program whereas non-treatment group participants were not exposed to any training. Data required was collected through pre/post scale of human shared values and two tests of cultural awareness and critical reading skills. Analysis of data using t-test, Pearson correlation and eta squared revealed that the treatment group significantly surpassed the non-treatment group in the post administration of the instruments. Discussion of these findings, recommendation and suggestions for further research are presented. |
