Abstract

Family planning can avert nearly one-third of maternal deaths and 10% of child mortality when couples space their pregnancies more than two years apart. Short intervals between births are linked with higher maternal and child mortality and morbidity. Postpartum family planning is the prevention of unintended and closely spaced pregnancies through the first twelve months following childbirth. Postpartum women need a range of effective contraceptive methods to be able to prevent an unplanned pregnancy, within a short interval.
Among the options available, the multi-year cost of the Copper T380A IUD makes it one of the most cost-effective contraceptive options available. The Copper T 380A intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is a highly effective, non-hormonal method that can be safely used by all women regardless of breastfeeding status during this interval. The main disadvantage of IUD contraception is the rate of expulsion and side effects, such as pain and bleeding, which may necessitate its early removal. The mode of delivery, the physical properties of the IUD and the method and timing of insertion are all potential factors that may influence the outcome of IUD use.
Compared with other contraceptive methods, early post-partum IUD insertion has several advantages. It provides protection against pregnancy without interfering with breastfeeding. Moreover, early insertion of an IUD may avoid discomfort related to insertion. However, in spite of these advantages, insertion of IUD after delivery is associated with high expulsion rates.
Thus, this study aimed to Evaluation of outcome after post placental insertion of IUD regarding the two different techniques and Recording of the complications after insertion of IUD by the two different technique regarding, Bleeding, Infection, Loss of threads, Displacement, Expulsion and pregnancy.
To elucidate our aim, this study was cohort prospective comparative was conducted on 164 women to evaluate out come of post- placental insertion of contraceptive device who attendance to the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University Hospital, during a period time from July 2022 to October 2022.
Patients of this study were divided into two groups as follows: group A: The IUD was placed by Traditional method and group B: The IUD was placed by A modified method.
All patients were subjected to the following: Full history taking including personal, menstrual, obstetric history and contraceptive history, Counselling was done during antenatal visits or during early labour, all women undergoing cesarean section was given 1 g intravenous cefazolin sodium prophylaxis during cesarean section as a routine practice in our facility. A copper IUD (model TCu 380A) was placed in the fundus of the uterus within 10 min of removing the placenta. After Examination of fundus of the uterus to exclude uterine anomalies not diagnosed before.
