Abstract

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) can be divided into subgroups of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), and unstable angina. NSTEMI and Unstable angina are very similar, with NSTEMI having positive cardiac biomarkers. Registry data consistently demonstrated that the incidence of non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) has increased, and it is more frequent than ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography has been described as the ideal imaging modality for the assessment of global and regional ventricular function. However, conventional assessment of wall motion, on the basis of visual interpretation of endocardial excursion and myocardial thickening, has the limitations of being a qualitative method, and is subjective and experience dependent.
