Abstract

NAFLD stands as a prevalent cause of chronic liver disease nowadays. Globally, NAFLD has a reported prevalence of approximately 20% among the population. Demographically, Peak prevalence of NAFLD was observed in men during 5th to 6th decade of life. Regarding sex, no specific variation found between males and females. H. pylori has been recognized as the most prevalent chronic bacterial infection in humans. At least half of the world’s population is infected with H. pylori, and the bacterium may be present in up to 90% of patients with peptic ulcer disease. However, less than 15% of infected individuals may develop peptic ulcer disease. The present study included 60 patients with NAFLD (group 1) and 60 healthy subjects of comparable age and sex as control (group 2). Patients and health controls were selected from outpatient clinics of Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology Departments, Tanta University Hospitals. The study aimed to evaluate correlations between H. pylori infection, lipid profile and IR in obese patients with NAFLD.
