Abstract
Biotransformation refers to the process of converting one chemical to another through the use of enzymes. This process can make a compound that may be less or more toxic. It is an environmentally friendly way of modifying compounds. Microorganisms are capable of producing a wide range of enzymes quickly due to their high rate of cell multiplication. They can mimic the pathways of mammalian metabolism, which involve stereoselective, regiospecific and selective conversions of natural drugs to their derivatives. Therefore, microorganisms can be used to transform natural products into a variety of compounds with various biological interests.
