Abstract

According to the WHO (2023) CS, has become the prevailing surgical procedure
globally, surpassing a rate of 21%. Also, it is suggested that in Egypt, the rate has
significantly surged to over 60%. Meanwhile, Thirukumar et al. (2020) stated that caesarean
sections are essential in situations where vaginal deliveries would pose risks, and therefore,
all health systems must ensure timely access for all women when needed. Additionally, they
added that they emphasize the importance of nurses possessing the necessary skills and
knowledge to provide optimal care for both the mother and the newborn.
Moreover, ES et al. (2023) mentioned that maternal satisfaction is influenced by
various factors, and one key factor is the quality of communication and interpersonal skills
exhibited by nurses. Also, they reported that effective communication plays a crucial role in
building trust and rapport between the nurse and the mother, leading to better understanding
and collaboration in decision-making. Similarly, Sarhan (2022) said that nurses who actively
listen to the concerns and preferences of mothers and provide clear and accurate information
are more likely to contribute to a positive birthing experience and higher levels of
satisfaction.
Furthermore, Vyas et al. (2022) revealed that the performance of nurses has a
significant impact on maternal satisfaction, as they are responsible for ensuring the wellbeing
of both the mother and the newborn. Otherwise, Sarhan (2022) stated that maternal
satisfaction refers to the level of contentment and fulfillment experienced by mothers in
relation to their pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum experiences. Finally, he concluded that
it is crucial for the well-being of both mothers and infants’ health and development; thus,
healthcare providers should prioritize patient-centered care. The Purpose of the current Study is:
To study the effect of instructional technology on maternity nurses’ performance and
satisfaction of women undergoing cesarean sections.
Research Hypotheses:
1. The studied maternity nurses exhibit a higher knowledge score regarding the care of
women undergoing CS after implementing the instructional technology.
2. The studied maternity nurses exhibit a higher performance score regarding the care of
women undergoing CS after implementing the instructional technology.3. Women undergoing CS exhibit a higher satisfaction score with the nursing intervention
after receiving the instructional technology than those who did not.
Method:
Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used to conduct this study (one
group pre-posttest and follow-up for the studied maternity nurses) and study and control
groups for the studied women.
Setting: The current study was conducted at the obstetrics and gynecological
department of Al-Shuhada hospital, affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, in
Menoufia Governorate, Egypt.
Sample: A purposive sample of 20 nurses and 150 women undergoing CS was
selected.
