Abstract
Savonious turbine belongs to the vertical axis wind turbine category. It has been constructed based on a very simple concept from oil drums and it has been used successfully. This type of turbine is highly desired in under-developed countries due to its simple construction, ease of operation and low maintenance. Hence, the low capital cost of this machine, which mainly determines power costs, supports using it although its efficiency is not high. The researchers in this field are trying day by day to raise up the performance of Savonious rotor type to be more beneficial in the market. This development is taking two directions.
