Abstract

Background: Cancer is a major public health problem worldwide (in both developed and
developing countries) and is the second leading cause of death Cancer is the disease characterized
by uncontrolled and unregulated proliferation of the cells.
Aim: evaluation the chemically characterize of bee pollen, using NMR and LCMS tools, identify
the bioactive compound (s), elucidate their structure as part of our ongoing project on anti cancer
activity on in vivo Ehrlich tumor model.
Methods: Female Swiss mice weighing 24 ± 4 g (6–8 weeks old) were supplied by bee pollen
from the National Research Center, Giza, Egypt. All animals were kept in a standard laboratory
setting with a 12-h light/dark cycle. The rodent food (El-Haramain rodent diet, Egypt) and water
were supplied. Acclimatization to laboratory conditions for 12 days prior to the experiments was
done to all mice.
Results: Phytochemical analysis of bee pollen indicated the presence of various bio active
compounds such as flavonoids, glycerophospholipids, Phenolic acids, dialkylamines. Flavonoid
such as isorhamnetin-3-O-triglucoside, Quercetin, Isorhamnetin 3-O-hexoside, Isorhamnetin 3,7-
di-O-hexoside, glycerophospholipids such as 1-(1Z-Hexadecenyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine
and 1-(9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine. Amino acids such as
