Abstract

The interfacial tension of prepared compounds solutions was
determined by using tensiometer and the values were recorded. We can
notice that by increasing length of carbon chain from (CH2)6 to (CH2)9 the
interfacial tension decreases due to increasing hydrophobicity of the
molecule (due to increasing number of fatty groups) in surfactants have
the same ratio of amino group leads to slight increase in IFT .
Critical micelle concentration (Ccmc)
The surface-active parameters of cationic gemini surfactants have
been investigated by surface tension measurements at room temperatures.
The most effective surfactant is one that gives the greater lowering
in surface tension for a critical micelle concentration (CMC). According
to the results, Oleic cationic surfactant is the most effective surfactant.
Stability to hydrolysis:
To study its hydrolysis, all of the synthesized Gemini-cationic
surfactants were exposed to basic and acidic media. According to the
ester linkage in all synthesized surfactants is easily hydrolysis in acidic
medium and it stability in acidic medium, as shown in (Table2). All of
the surfactants under this study showed high stability in basic media. The
hydrolysis test also shows that as fatty chain length increases, hydrolysis
in both acidic and basic media becomes more stable. the prepared Gemini
cationic surfactants are affected by the basic media rather than the acidic
media but surfactants (Ⅴa &Ⅴe) possess high extent of stabilization in
their structure for more than 24 h.
