Abstract
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease affecting the hair follicles with a possible multifactorial origin, most prominently in genetically predisposed patients. Many methods have been tried, including topical, locally injected, or systemic steroids; topical immunotherapy; minoxidil; topical irritants such as anthralin; and systemic immunosuppressants such as cyclosporin or methotrexate. Objective: to elucidate the efficacy and safety of intralesional injection of methotrexate versus that of candida antigen in the treatment of localized alopecia areata.
