Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on the six thinking hats model to enhance EFL creative writing skills of secondary stage students and their creative thinking skills.To fulfill the purpose of the study, three instruments were designed and used. The first instrument a pre-post creative writing test for assessing the creative writing skills of secondary students, the second was a rubric for scoring students’ creative writings. A creative thinking scale was the third tool. The quasi-experimental design was chosen for the investigation. (60) first-year secondary school students from Ahmed Hassan Ghonem School for Girls in Mansoura, Dakahlia, Egypt participated in this study.The study used two groups: a control group (n = 30) and an experimental group (n = 30) in a quasi-experimental design. The STHs program was used by the researcher to instruct the experimental group, whereas the conventional teaching approach was used with the control group.The findings of the study showed that the experimental group’s mean score on the EFL creative writing skills exams was much higher than that of the control group’s, and that the experimental group also performed better on the creative thinking scale. Furthermore, it was discovered that the STHs program had a large effect size.These findings demonstrated that STH had a favorable impact on students’ EFL creative writing skills development and creative thinking.Thus, this study suggested that the four English language skills should be taught at various educational levels using the STHs approach.
