Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Dialysis therapy has remarkably evolved through the innovation in dialyzers and hemodialysis modalities, enhancing patients’ quality of life. The efficacy of dialysis can be determined by measuring the reduction ratio (RR) of middle molecules, such as adiponectin and complement factor D.
Objective: In our study, we tested two high-flux dialyzers (platinum H 4 and FX 80) with a surface area of 1.8 m2. We aimed to compare the removal of adiponectin and complement factor D in patients on HDF versus high flux hemodialysis (HD) using two different high flux dialyzers and assess the quality of life for these patients through SGA score.
Patients and Method: This crossover clinical trial included 20 hemodialysis patients. Dialyser and treatment efficacies were examined during a mid-week session. All patients will be subjected to assessment the reduction ratio of both adiponectin and complement factor D by 2 different hemodialysis modalities using two different dialyzer (FX 80 and platinum H4), with washout period 2 weeks in between them. modality A HDF modality b HF -HD. Also, we assessed SGA score for all patients for assessment quality of life.
Results: The dialyzer used in this study resulted in Adiponectin RR using HDF FX80, which was 36.8 ± 3.2 compared to 22.6± 3.8 with HD FX80, p <0. 001. Adiponectin RR using HDF H4 was 51.4 ±4.3 compared to 27.1± 1.9 with HD H4, p<0. 001. Complement factor D RR using HDF FX80 was 34.7 ± 2.1 compared to 19.8±2.8 with HD FX80, p<0.001. Complement factor D RR using HDF H4 was 52.7±5.3 compared to 29.6 ± 3 using HD H4, p<0.001. The mean SGA was 11.
Conclusion: HDF offered better removal of Adiponectin and complement factor D compared to high flux HD. A difference was observed between the two high-flux dialyzers used. SGA score negatively correlated with serum albumin.
