المستخلص

This study aimed to reveal the features of argumentative formation, its mechanisms and tools in a pioneer of the pioneers of Udhrite love poetry, the poet Urwa bin Hizam, one of the infatuated Arab lovers who were killed by love, and his only known poetry is about Afra, the daughter of his cousin Uqal bin Muhasir, and his love poems for her. Although Urwa’s poetic output is small, the argumentative features appeared clearly in his poetry, and his poetic texts were full of many argumentative mechanisms, especially those with which he confronted his opponents, throughout the ages.
The study reached some extracted results, including:
1. The nature of Udhrite love poetry keeps pace with the educational approach and Islamic teachings; therefore, the argumentative feature appeared clearly in it in defense of its noble purposes.
2. The Arabs’ strong knowledge of argumentation and its importance in the arts of speech and writing; however, the concept of argumentation has received more research and study in light of modern critical studies.
3. The persistence of argumentative techniques in Urwa’s poetry, and the poet’s reliance on them without abandoning the aesthetic framework of artistic images.
4. The voluntariness of Urwa’s poetic texts as ancient texts for study and argumentative criticism according to a modern critical point of view.
5. The diversity of linguistic argumentative styles in Urwa’s poetry between the language of persuasion and the language of threat.
