Abstract Now in Egypt, the construction sector is witnessing a great openness in terms of construction materials and methods that require new ideas, formal research, and innovative management tools. So, the adaptation of innovation in the construction sector has become important. This helps in improving the construction processes, which brings many benefits to the construction companies and promotes their competitiveness. Nevertheless, previous studies revealed that applying innovation to the construction projects is not a straightforward process compared to other industries. Therefore, it is essential to investigate barriers and drivers that influence its adoption in the construction sector in order to reap the benefits of innovation. This research aims to investigate the barriers, drivers, and coping strategies for innovation in the Egyptian linear construction projects. The study is motivated by the need to understand the dynamics of innovation within these projects and identify practical approaches to overcome barriers to innovation. Owners, contractors, and consultants involved in linear construction projects constituted the target population of the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from a representative sample of 70 participants. It is found that time and budget constraints, along with traditional tendering and procurement methods were significant barriers to innovation, while technological and technical capabilities, coupled with the availability of resources and client requirements towards innovation were identified as key drivers. Moreover, the study reveals that financial incentives from the government and non-traditional forms of procurement and contract methods are effective coping strategies to improve the current weak rate of innovation. |
