Abstract

Xylenes (o -m and p)ethylbenzene and naphthalene are reacted with various hydrated metal nitrates in open vessels and sealed tubes. the metal nitrates used are Al(NO3)3. 9H2O, cobalt nitrate CO(NO3)2. 6H2O and ferric nitrate Fe NO3)3. 9H2O.the reactions are studied with a mole ratio of hydrocarbon to nitrating agent of 3:1.
