Abstract The objective of the present work was to investigate growth and quality components in the leaves and fruits of Ficus platyphylla, a Moraceae plant of medicinal value, inhabiting Damietta and Senaneia areas. The progressive increase in the fresh weight, water-soluble ash, crude fibre content and in ascorbic acid content were associated with progressive decrease in moisture content, acid-insoluble ash, alkalinity and nitrogen content of the fruit during growth and maturation. Tannins, on the other hand, showed variable changes. Successive extraction with organic solvents and phytochemical screening showed quality of the various components present in fruits and leaves of Ficus platyphylla plants. |
