Abstract Experiments in which carrot root slices were incubated, for 48 hrs. at 25ºc, in pyruvate, ketoglutarate or citrate either alone or in combination with ammonium chloride were conducted. Aged carrot root slices showed marked ability to absorb and utilize pyruvate and ketoglutarate from the respective media whereas lesser ability was observed with citrate. The inclusion of ammonium chloride in the acid media, in general, appreciably increased the rate of uptake and assimilation. |
