Abstract

During the period from March to December 1987, roots of plant samples were collected from Kafr El - Sheikh and Damietta cities as well as from villages belonging to Damietta Governorate. Plants from 29 families were examined for the presence of Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) infection. In all sampling areas, the spores were found in the rhizosperic soil, either borne singly on hyphae or less frequently in sporocarps. These varied in size, cytoplasmic appearance, cell wall and subtending hyphae. These spores are typical of Glomus spp. including G. aggregatum, G. fasciculatum, C. microsporum and G. mosseae.
