Abstract The present work deals with geology, petrography and uranium potential of the various rock units in the area located in the southern part of the Eastern Desert of Egypt (Lat. 22° 13’ & º22 20’ N, Long. 36°, Long. 36° 8’ & 36° 17’ E). The following basement rocks cover the study area (about 185 Km2) : I- Ophiolitic assemblage 1- Antigorite serpentinite. 2- Metapyroxenite. 3- Metagabbro. 4- Amphibolite. 5- Carbonates. II- Melange 1- Biotite - muscovite schist. 2- Actinolite schist. 3- Quartzo - feldspathic schist. III- Older granitoid ( biotite tonalite). VI- Dokhan volcanics. 1- Andesites. 2- Dacites. V- Molasse (Hammamat) sediments. VI- Younger granites. 1- Biotite - muscovite monzogranite (G. El Sella). 2- Muscovite monzogranite (G. Qash Amir). |
