Abstract Seven samples of steel of different modes of manufacture and chemical as well as mechanical properties have been examined as far as the notch duotility behaviour is concerned. Major differences in composition were due to C (ranging from 0.05% up to 0.43%), si from traces up to 0.24%, Mn (from 0.3% up to 0.72%), S (ranging from 0.023 up to 0.030%), p(from 0.024 up to 0.06%) and N2 (from 0.008% up to 0.016%). The modes of manufacture in 5 samples of egyptian Iron and Steel Co. were either Thomas or Electric are furnace smelting. |
