Abstract

Entrainment of liquid droplets with a gas flow is considered as one of the important subjects due to its presence in many industrial applications such as neat exchangers, nuclear reactors, desalination plants and heat pipes. The theory of heat pipes depends on transmitting a lot of energy with minimum temperature difference between their ends. It is found that the amount of transmitted heat increases with the increase of the amount of vapor flowing through the axial direction of the pipe. When the velocity reaches a certain limit, the entrainment starts, this limit is called” entrainment limit II. More increase in the velocity of the flowing vapor will increase the amount of entrained water. Some of the important parameters such as entrained liquid mass flow rate, mean entrained droplet diameter, nixture density, and friction factor, are required to be studied for their importance in analyzing the two-phase (gas/liquid) mist flow. Several techniques such as laser doppler local probes,.. etc, are used to describe veloci ty meters, the entrainment phenomenon and its mechanisrr. In addition, many trials have been done to get correlations to predict the entrainment process. These correlations depend on the affecting parameters, which determined according to the conditions of each experiment. Non of the according to the conditions of each experiment. Non of the previous studies are concerned with the effect of the prosivity.
So, the object of the present work is to study the parameters which affect the entrainment fraction of air flow past a wetted porous medium.
