Abstract

Turbulent flow between concentric cylinder (on of the rotating) occurs In various rotating machinery such as Journal bearing axial flow between the stationary and rotating parts of turbo - machines and the flow In the rising Line of deep well pumps. One of the important examples IS the cooling system of gas turbine rotor, where some portion of the cooling air can be supplied to the rotor area through an annular duct , formed by two coaxial cylinders , with the inner cylinder rotating This study presents an experimental investigation of the turbulent axial flow between concentric annulus with rotating inner cylinder The experimental apparatus was buildup so that the inner cylinder can be rotated With different values of speed of rotation. The experimental apparatus consist of two annulus the ratio between the inner cylinder diameter and outer cylinder diameter (Radii ratio) was 0.425, 0.315 respectively. Water was used as working fluid. The orifice meter was used for measuring the fluid flow rate through the test section The Pilot- Static tube was used for measuring the axial mean velocity at seven different position and the axial mean velocity distribution. The digital photo tachometer was operated manually for measuring the speed of rotation (r. p. m) of the inner cylinder.
