Abstract

In order to achieve high weaving efficiency with Air – Jet weaving machines, it is mandatory to optimize sizing conditions. Minimum warp breakage is feasible with proper adjustments of sizing parameters such as : - 1 ) squeeze roll pressure. 2) immersion roll depth. 3) PVA. 4) starch.
In the present work, the effect of sizing parameters of the yarn properties and weaving performance were studied with two levels, using two fabric styles 50 x 50 / 116 x 82 and 30 x 30 / 75 x 75 plain weave. Some laboratories tests were carried on the yarn after sizing, and woven on air – jet weaving machine at 610 r.p.m.
The obtained results indicated that squeeze pressure and PVA affect significantly the yarn properties and warp breaks. The yarn weavability is a high level property to yarn quality. The coefficient of yarn friction increase after sizing processes. Increasing PVA and starch to high level will decrease yarn elongation, while increasing squeeze pressure to high level may improve yarn elongation. Warp breaks/hr. decreases when increasing PVA and squeeze pressure to high level, while warp breaks/hr. increase when increasing starch and immersion roll depth to high level. The replacement of conventional sizing materials by syntetic sizing materials for warp sizing of air – jet weaving machines is suitable and cheaper.
