Abstract

The aim of the present experimental study is to investigate the heat transfer between a horizontal tube and a gas fuel fired fluidized bed. Experiments are performed on a fluidized bed combustor with rectangular cross-section of 30*15 cm. and a height of 60cm. Two copper tubes are used one of them is circular in cross –section and the other is oval .Both tubes are equal in their cross-section area. Sand practices of small size (d f = 375 um.) are used as a bed material commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LP3) is used as combustion fuel. Design of the air –fuel mixture distributor plate is made following the suggested procedures of basu (48). Measurements of air flow rate , fuel flow rate , water flow rate , water inlet and outlet temperatures, bed temperature , tube surface temperature , and particles size , have been carried out . Some primary observations are carried out at ambient temperature to study the fluidization characteristics of the fluidized bed. Calculation of different parameters is, then made followed by an investigation to the effect equivalence ratio, superficial velocity, bed temperature, and tube cross-section shape on the average heat transfer coefficient to the heat transfer tube.
