Abstract

the air-traffic-control (ATC) redar is intended to control air traffic in the airfirld area and to guide aircrafts to a safe landing on runway. it consists mainly from surveillance reder (
SR) and precision approach reder (PAR). Due to the wide suread use of computers in the past decade, ATC redar signals are now routinely processed by computers. for ATC rader signal processing, there are two main problems. These problemes are detection and tracking.
In this thesis we have focused on the tracking problem. The most optimum processor which can be used in the ATC radar tracking is the Kalman filter, because it can be easily applied in the real time tracking systems and it is a recursive and digital filter.
so. we have presented a simple ex-planation of Kalman filtering in spite of the awasome notation. obscure terminology and associated matrix notation that typically accomanies any discussion of Kalman filtering. we have appliedthe Kalman filtering techniques specifically to the tracking function of ATC radars and hane formally derived an algorithm for real time tracking by them for both non-maneuvering and maneuvering aircrafts.
