Abstract
the study of converters supplying a dc motor has revealed interesting characteristics during the motor operation. two types of converters have been investigated under normal and abnormal circuit conditions, un-controlled and controlled types. the average current and voltage wave-shapes have been found to change according to converter circuit arrangement. the torque-speed characteristics depends completely on the external characteristics of the converter. the performance of the motor operation depends on the diode connections in the uncontrolled converter circuits. ratio which determines the conduction angle. in controlled converter circuits, the firing control angle is another important factor in influencing the motor behaviour in the system. free-wheeling diode has been used to be useful in case of expected discontinuity of motor current. the free-wheeling diode maintain the continuity of current in armature circuit, spicially with large inductance of armature oircuit.experimental work has been carried out and results have been obtained tosupport the theoretical study. full agreement have been found between theoretical analysis and experimental investigations.
