Abstract The region east of the Nile Delta, as defined in this work, covers an area of about 15000km2 and comprises a portion of fertile land of the Nile Delta, The meditation coastal plain and the barren desert stretching to the sues canal Fig .(101). The sources of water in this region are: 1. The Nile water, which is nearly fixed after the construction of the high Dam. 2. The seepage from Damietta branch, the Ismailia canal and the other irrigation canals and drainage system in this area. 3. The excess water of surface irrigation. The major portion of this region is characterized by the typical arid climatic conditions except in its northen extremely where sub-arid climatic conditions (Mediterranean type) are dominant. The groundwater in the region between Cairo and Ismailia has almostly a good quality, the variation in water quality with depth or time may be neglected. |
