Abstract

DISSERTATION ABSTRACT Modern industry based on high technology has very complicated control requirements in that it handles a huge number of system parameters in a specific time. The need for efficient electronic control systems has become a dire need for all industrial process control suppliers. SCADA which stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition is a widely variant and customizable to suit the required control scheme. SCADA is a data gathering oriented system so communication plays a vital role in the process control. Communication based on industrial field buses. Field buses are operated with protocols for data transmission to suit control requirements. The classical schemes using nondeterministic protocol faced many problems. It forces to study new features for the field buses leading to the deterministic protocol that deals with signals according to its importance not its arrival time. This deterministic protocol prevents damage in some critical cases in which an urgent signal is required to be sent while the bus is busy transmitting other trivial signals. This protocol serves the high priority signals- urgent signals- first. It leads to decrease the average wait time for the urgent signals. So now it’s important to use deterministic field buses in modern control systems to have a higher efficiency level and maintain fewer errors. Keywords: SCADA, DCS and Field bus.
