Abstract
This thesis studies the concept of reliability equivalence of two different systems. Such concept is applied to calculate the reliability equivalence factors of some systems. The system reliability can be improved by reducing the failure rates of some of the system components by this factor. The thesis contains four chapters.Chapter 1 presents a review of literature, basic concepts and a description of the problem.Chapter 2 studies a koutofn cold standby system with imperfect switches and nonidentical components. In this chapter two main theorems are formulated and proved. These theorems give closed forms of the probability density function of the system lifetime and its reliability function. Some specific cases of koutofn cold standby systems are derived as special cases.Chapter 3 is devoted to the study of reliability equivalence factors. Such concept is applied to obtain the reliability equivalence factors of one component system and a series system that consists of n independent and nonidentical components. To illustrate how one can utilize the results obtained, some numerical examples and conclusions are presented.
