Abstract

The problem : The researcher, as an assistant lecturer of English language in Damietta faculty of Specific Education, noticed the low standard of Educational Mass Media students in English . She felt this problem from the following resources : 1.?Through her work as an assistant lecturer teaching Educational Mass Media students noticed students<U+2019> weak performance in class. 2.?Through complaints raised by the teachers of English language about the Educational Mass Media students<U+2019> low standard in English. 3.?Through interviews with the teachers and professors of the Mass Media department, they asserted the great need of those students to the English language and expressed their views that the topics included in the English course should be related to the academic content offered to them in the academic courses . 4.?There was some dissatisfaction among the Educational Mass Media students with the existing course . They demanded to read English in the field of specialization for example in journalism, in editing a newspaper. Findings of the study : 1­ As for the literal comprehension Skill : There were significant mean differences between Educational Mass Communication students<U+2019> scores in the pre <U+2013> and post test on guessing the meaning of words from context , identifying reference terms , identifying signal words or connectives , on finding details , and on the total literal comprehension in favor of students<U+2019> responses on the post <U+2013> test 2­ As for the Inferential comprehension Skill : There were significant mean differences between Educational Mass Communication students<U+2019> scores in the pre <U+2013> and post test on the main idea, drawing conclusion and on the total inferential skills in favor of students<U+2019> responses on the post <U+2013>test 3­ As For the dictionary Skill : There were significant mean differences between Educational Mass Communication students<U+2019> scores in the pre<U+2013> and post test on the dictionary skill in favor of students<U+2019> responses on the post <U+2013>test 4­ As For the Journalistic terminology : There were significant mean differences between Educational Mass Communication students<U+2019> scores in the pre<U+2013> and post test on journalistic terminology in favor of students<U+2019> responses on the post <U+2013>test .
