Abstract Objective: To evaluate different surgical procedures in management of male infertility and erectile dysfunction. Patients and methods: This study was carried out on 140 patients. Of these, 120 patients presented with primary infertility with no history of erectile dysfunction and 20 patients presented with erectile dysfunction. All patients admitted and treated in Endocrine Surgery Unit at Mansoura University Hospitals during the period from June, 1998 to May, 2000 inclusive. Results and conclusion: Varicocele is considered to be the most common treatable cause of primary infertility. In patients with varicocele, it is noticed that there is a higher incidence of abnormality of semen picture, testicular atrophy and secondary hydrocele. Conservative medical measures for treatment of varicocele almost always fail to give satisfactory results. Laparoscopic varicocelectomy gives nearly equal results to open high ligation varicocelectomy where there was no significant difference as regard the correction of semen picture, pregnancy rate and postoperative complications mainly secondary hydrocele and recurrent varicocele. In our study, we were able to document psychosexual improvement up to one year after insertion of semirigid penile prosthesis. Semirigid penile prosthesis placement was associated with a significantly increased improvement inpatients satisfaction. |
