Abstract

The subject of the present thesis deals with the design optimization and active structural control of composite fiber ¬reinforced laminated plates subjected to thermal loadings. The optimization objectives are the maximization of the thermal buckling, and the minimization of the dynamic response with minimum expenditure of the control energy. This subject is of great importance due to its wide applications in the various industrial fields, particularly, in the aerospace industry and in the construction of large space structures which need light weight and thermally stable materials with a high degree of flexibility and mostly with very low natural damping.
This topic has been a main subject of many research studies in which the design optimization and active control are treated as separate issues. In more recent studies, these techniques are used as integrated approach to reconciling the conflicting objectives in the design and active control of the structures. But, most studies related to the design and control optimization of composite laminated plates are formulated based on the classical theories for special cases of boundary conditions which have a significant effect on the whole laminate behavior
