Abstract

This study was carried out to study the effect of endotoxin induced fever on pharmacokinetics, urinary excretion and dosage regimen of enrofloxacin (5 mg.kg1 B.Wt.) in goats following its single intravenous and intramuscular administration. The obtained results revealed that, fever significantly increased serum concentrations of enrofloxacin. On the other hand, enrofloxacin distribution and clearance were decreased following intravenous administration. Following a single intramuscular injection of enrofloxacin, the maximum serum concentration in febrile goats was lower than in normal goats. Enrofloxacin absorption was delayed and also the elimination was lower in febrile goats. The systemic bioavailability of enrofloxacin in febrile goats was lower than normal goats. A higher enrofloxacin concentrations were detected in urine when compared to that obtained in serum, also enrofloxacin urine concentrations were lower in febrile goat compared with normal. Following intravenous and intramuscular administration. The dosage regimen of enrofloxacin was calculated for different MICs at different time interval, it was noticed that the dosage of enrofloxacin showed reduction in febrile goats at 4 h dosage interval, However at 8 h interval , reduction only was observed in priming dose, also no differences were observed at 12 h time interval. Following intramuscular injection the dosage regimen showed reduction at all tested MICs and time interval
