Abstract This study was canducted on 36 patients submitted for surgical interference to determine the cardiovascujar ef effects of mepivacaine spinal analgesic in bilharzjal hepatic fibrGsis.All Patients were subjected to pre-operative assessment to exclude nutritional deficiency,endocrinal disturbance, cardiovascular diseases or advanced bilharzial hepatosplenomegaly mcnifiested clinically by shrunkencirrhotic liver or ascites. Premedication was carried out by 150 mg.phenobarbitone I.M. to every patient, one hour before the start of analgesia. Blood pressure and pulse rate were recorded preoperatively.
