Abstract This study was conducted on twenty adult patients subjected to abdominal surgery to study the effect of epidural anaesthesia using bupivacaine on dose requirement of vecuronium. The patients were prepared preoperatively to exclude major cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, hepatic and metabolic disorders. The patients were classified into two groups, 10 patients each. In group (1), the patients were subj ected to genera 1 anaesthesia, induced with thi opentone sodium 5mg IKg and sulphate 1mg/Kg followed by atropine O.02mg/Kg suxamethonium endotracheal intubation, to facilitate anaesthesia was maintained with gas-oxygen, Halothane and muscle relaxation was ensured using vecuronium in an initial dose of 0.06mg/Kg, with incremental does of 1/5 of the initial dose as indicated by Tl twitch height to maintain 90% neuromuscular block, with last incremental dose 15-20 minutes before the end of surgery. |
