Abstract This study was conducted on 20 patients submitted for urological surgical interference to determine any possible neurological or haemodynamic changes in patients complaining of bilharzial hepatic fibrosis as compared to control group when these patients subjected to extradural block using bupivacaine and morphine. All patients were subjected to preoperative clinical examination to exclude cardiovascular diseases endocrinal disturbances, severe anaemiag other nutritional deficiencies and advanced bilharzial hepatic fibrosis manifisted clinically by shrunken cirrhotic liver and ascites. Diazepam in a dose of 5 mg was given orally the night before the operation and the same dose was given intravenously halfan hour before epidural injection as a premedicant. Blood pressure and pulse rate were recorded preoperatively and every 15 minutes after epidural injection till 90minutes afterwards. |
