Abstract This study was performed to evaluate the effects and safety of propofol supplemented with N20 or alone as T.I.V.A. by assessing its effects on liver functions and by assessing its effects on the haemodynamic parameters in patients diagnosed as portal hypertension and submitted for shunt and non shunt surgery at M.G.E.C. Patients were premedicated with 3 mg midazolam and 0.4 mg atropine I.V. 20 minutes before induction. Patients were randomly allocated into 3 groups i (1) GIn. = 10 patients of this group were anaesthetized by thiopentone, suxamethonium for induction and epidural/ halothane and nitrous oxide-02 for maintenance. (2) G II n = 10 : patients of this group were anaesthetized by propofol, suxamethonium for induction and propofol infusion -N20 -02 for maintenance. (3) GIll n = 10 : patients of this group were anaesthetized by propofol, suxamethonium for induction and propofol infusion- 02 for maintenance. At the end of surgery, after establishment of adequate criteria for reversal of neuromuscular blockade, prostigmine -1 (0.06 mg Kg -1 mg Kg were giving I. V. and atropine 0.02 followed by suction and extubation under vision. |
