Abstract This study vi/as conducted on twenty patients suffering from bilharzial hepatic fibrosis submitted for surgical in¬terference . Their mean age was 32.5 HK 8.13 (range 20 - 45 years). Their mean body weight was 74.55 ^ 11.09 (range 55-90 kg) and they were of either sex . They were classified into two equal groups, each consisting of 10 patients. To patients of the first group 20 mg nefopam were in¬jected (i.m.) as premedication and arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis were aspirated from radial artery before, half an hour and one hour after injection of the drug. To patients of the second group 10 mg morphine were given (i.m.) and samples were aspirated as in the first group . The results were statistically analysed and assessed. There was no significant changes in pH, P C09, P 09 half a L a L an hour and one hour after i.m. nefopam as compared to basal arterial blood sample in patients suffering from bilharzial hepatic fibrosis. There was no significant change in pH, P Co9 but there a tL was significant decrease in P 02 (P^ 0.001) half an hour after i.m. morphine as compared to basal arterial blood sam¬ple in patients suffering from bilharzial hepatic fibrosis. |
