Abstract

This study was conducted on 20 patients submitted to Urology & Nephrology Center-Mansoura University for elective medium duration renal surgery.
They were preoperatively examined and investigated to exclude patients with mental disorders or a history of family troubles, patients with hepatic insufficiency and patients with endocrine malfunctions. They were anaesthetized with titrated ketamineMidazolam infusion, vecuronium according to patient’s body weight. They were monitored for pulse, mean arterial blood pressure every 30 minutes through the operation and for 3 hours postoperatively. Sedation score, return of amnesia and analgesic requirements were recorded.
This study showed that there is a place for ketaminemidazolam total intravenous anaesthesia for medium duration renal surgery, and the technique described proved to be feasible and safe.
