Abstract This study was designed to elicit the effects of halothane versus is.oflurane anaesthesia Qn polymorplmuclear, leucocytes. It was conducted on 40 adult patients of either sex ,aged 20-50 years and subinitted for In’ajOr elective surgery in Mansoura University Hospital. The protocol was approved by research ethical committe of Mansoura University .A medical consent was taken from the patients . On the morning of surgery , a basal venous blood smnple was withdrawn from all patients. Anaesthesia was induced by a sleeping ’dose of thiopentone sodium 2.5%iv . Tracheal intubation was facillitated by suxmnethoniunl and a suitable size cuffed tube was used . According to anaesthetic agents used for nlaintaince of anaesthesia ,patients were randomly allocated into two groups .In the first group ,anaesthesia was Inaintained by 0.5-1.50/0 halothane carried by N02/02 2: 1 while in the second group anaesthesia was nlaintained by 0.5-1.5% isoflurane carried by N20/02 ~: 1 .Muscle relaxatio,n in both group ~as achived by atracuiunl .At the end of surgery any residual effect of muscle relaxant was reversed by prostgnline and atropine . Other 2 sainpies of venous blood were withdrawn 6 and 24 hours after the end of surgery. All sanlples were subjected to the following laboratory tests for phagocytosis (NBT) and for chemotaxis (Under agrose method) . |
