Abstract PCM is a nutritional problem particularly in developing countries. An impact on mineral homeostasis (Ca. Mg & Po 4 ) is matter of debate. This study was carried out on 39 chi I dren with various forms of PCM, classified as marasmus Kwashiorkor and marasmic kwashiorkor (10) besides 10 healthy controls of matched age and sex. the pcm children were examined investigated at the time of hosp,-tal admission and after 4-6 weeks of treatment S4 nutritional rehabilitation. Serum total protein , albumin, hemoglobin. blood gases, electrolytes (Na & K) , ff inerals (Ca T Po Mg) PTH, OH-vit-D and calcitonin were estimated. Serum total protei albumin and hemoglobin were significantly decreased In all groups when compared to control. After refeeding +he statistical values of these parameters WeVe significantly increased than before refeeding, but were still significantly lower than the control. On the, other hand, the main significant change in blood gases was in Wi Hco’. pH was significantly lower in marawmic chiIdren than control. |
