Abstract

The present study was carried out on 33 children with acute .leukemia with their age ranging from 6 months to 1 0 years. It includes 17 patients (51.5%) with ALL and 16 patient’s (48.5%) with AML. 1 0 healthy children of matched age and sex were selected as a control group. In addition to thorough history and clinical examination, the following investigations were carried out including . • CBC, BMA and assessment of serum mutant p53 antibodies using ELISA technique at the time of diagnosis and after remission induction. Serum mutant p53 antibodies were increased significantly in ALL and AML groups versus the control group. Following induction chemotherapy and after remission serum mutant p53 in significantly decreased in ALL-L1 and L2 compared to the pretreatment level. On the other hand there is a significantly decrease in serum p53 antibodies in AML-M2 group versus the pre-induction level. In AML-M3 serum mutant p53 antibodies were increased compared to the level at diagnosis. A relatively high level of serum p53 tends to be associated with bad prognosis as regard death, relapse or unsuccessful remission. The mutant serum p53 antibodies were correlated, with the clinical and most of hernatological parameters such as negative correlation between p53 and Hb level, RBC count, platelet count , lymphocytic count and P.B. blasts.
