Abstract

Vitiligo is a common disease that affects millions of peopol all over the world. It may cause severe cosmetic disfigurement especially among pigmented races so that many patients and their families are willing to deprive themselves or go into debt to obtain cure. Therefore, the problem of treatment of vitiligo had received the attention of scientists thousands of years ago. Most of them agreed that photochemotherapy using psoralen or khellin plus UVA is the most reliable treatment for vitiligo. However, the encountered side effects usually preclude its use. In 1991, Professor Dr. Ali Abdel Faltah published the first report in the world literature on the successful use of a new phytophototherapeutic regimen consisting of topical application of Aloe vera /Apple vinegar mixture followed by subsequent exposure to sunlight in the treatment of vitiligo. The aim of this work was to :- - Compare the efficacy of using topical Aloe vera alone or Apple vinegar alone to a mixture of them (40/60 wt/wt) in the treatment of vitiligo. - Compare the efficacy of using the mixture alone to its use simultaneously with oral kellin or oral psoralen. -.- Compare the histopathologic and ultrastructural changes occuring before and after treatment with different drug regimen. This study included one hundred and eighty cases categorised as follows Group I (A): 10 patients used Aloe vera topically. Group I (B): 10 patients used Apple vinegar topically.
