Abstract The present study comprized 58 (36 males and 22 females) recently diagnosed untreated lymphoma patients with mean age 42.2 years divided into: Patients with HD, 20 cases further subdivided according to Rye’s histopathologic classification into: 6 mixed cellularity, 4 lymphocytic predominance, 2 lymphocytic depletion and 8 nodular sclerosis . Patients with NHL, 38 cases further subdivided according to National Cancer Institutes Working formulation into: 15 low grade, 19 intermediate grade, 4 high grade. Both groups are further categorized according to the presence or absence of B-symptoms into: With B symptoms: 12 HD and 15 NHL patients . Without B symptoms: 8 HD and 23 NHL patients. Ten normal healthy individuals of matched age and sex (5 males and 5 females) were included as control group. All subjects included in this study were subjected to the following investigations: A full medical history taking, a thorough clinical examination, and laboratory investigations that included : A complete hemogram, ESR, sLDH, serum IL-l" ~ ", serum IL-lsRII, serum IL-1RA, together with other haematological and pathological investigations necessary for diagnosis. The number of lymphoma Patients in both HD (50 %) and NHL (47 %) groups with detectable serum levels of IL-l " ~ " was significantly higher as compared to the control group (10%). The number ofHD patients with B symptoms with detectable serum IL-l " ~ " was not significantly different compared to those without B symptoms. |
